The museum of Poltava region’s Department of Internal Affairs started its work in 1967 after opening a museum room at the regional department of internal affairs. The museum moved to a new building on the 23rd of September, 1989. It is a mansion of 1890 which is a beautiful remarkable sight of Poltava. In 1992 the museum was given the rank of National value.

Exposition of the museum is placed in four halls (total area is 237 square yards). Museum funds consist of more than 3’000 exhibits; among them: archive documents, photos, original objects of firearms and cold steel arms, personal things of the veterans of the Internal Affairs Department. There are skilfully produced artistic dioramas and models.

Professional holiday of Ukrainiian Militsiya is called the Police Day – and in our country it is celebrated on the 20th, December. According to the President act, annually, the 22nd, August is considered to be a Memorial Day ofInternal Affairs’ workers who died on-duty.

Not far from the museum — at the crossroad of Pushkina and Krasnoarmeiskaya streets — there is the memorial complex “To dead defenders of Poltava region law and order”.
